Adopting a child from a foreign country is a vital option for many families. Yet, it can be complex and confusing. Longer periods of post placement supervision may be required, and after the home study is completed, adoptive parents must apply for the child to be found eligible for immigration to the US, and must obtain a visa. Foreign adoption usually involves traveling to the country of origin to pick up the child. What’s more, the process for adopting a child from a country governed by the Hague Convention differs markedly from that of a non-Hague country.
